It's Budget Season

It's Budget Season

It’s budget season in Strathcona County, and residents are looking at a projected 6.63% municipal tax increase for 2026.

The proposed hike reflects rising inflation, growth in service areas, and the cost of major capital projects such as advancing the indoor fieldhouse, developing the first stage of Bremner, the Station 7 firehall in Cambrian, and The Pointe Agricultural Event Centre, as well as replenishing reserves.

Operational demands, including eight new firefighters for Station 7 and the first full year of operations at The Pointe, are also contributing to the increase.

Council will begin deliberations on November 24th, with residents invited to participate in the public hearing on December 1st at 5:00 pm, either in person or via Zoom.

Remote speakers must register by 4:00 pm the business day before, and written submissions are due by 12:00 noon the business day before the hearing.

Feedback can also be shared online to ensure Council hears community priorities as budget talks get underway.

This is the first chance for the new Council to prove they’re serious about fiscal responsibility - and the best chance for residents to make their voices heard.

At Common Sense Sherwood Park, we’ll be watching closely, breaking down the numbers, and holding Council accountable.

But we can’t do it without you.

If you believe Sherwood Park deserves a municipal government that focuses on core priorities and respects taxpayers, please consider making a donation today to help us keep the pressure on.

We’ll share a full breakdown of the 2026 budget soon - for now, your support ensures residents have a voice in how their money is spent.

Thank you!
