This Week In Sherwood Park:

  • On Tuesday, at 9:00 am, there will be a meeting of the Priorities Committee. The agenda includes the final report and recommendations of the Active Transportation and Traffic Safety Task Force, the 2025 Transportation Engineering and Operations Construction Season Overview, and an update on the progress of Strathcona County RCMP’s Annual Policing Plan initiatives. The Committee will also discuss the County’s approach to panhandling, annual activities and accomplishments of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, and the outcome of the Fleet and Facility Management department review.

  • Strathcona County Council is taking steps to assess how ongoing US tariffs and foreign exchange shifts are impacting local budgets and infrastructure plans. Mayor Rod Frank introduced a motion calling for a detailed report on the associated risks, which Council unanimously supported. The report, expected by the end of June, will help distinguish cost increases due to tariffs, inflation, and supply chain issues. CFO Jennifer Cannon noted that updates would likely continue through the fall budget process.

  • Strathcona County has opened up an online survey to gather feedback from residents and vehicle for hire operators. The feedback will shape the future of its Vehicle for Hire Bylaw. The survey is available online until April 27th.

Genuis also expressed his commitment to strengthening the energy economy and expanding Canada's export markets, particularly through the repeal of Bill C-69 and Bill C-48. His campaign has already begun with local door knocking and phone canvassing across the country.

  • Tanya Holm has been confirmed as the Liberal candidate for Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan in the upcoming federal election. Holm, who has lived in the community for over 30 years, believes the riding needs better representation with a seat at the governing table. She sees growing support for Mark Carney and his efforts to unite Canadians, especially among small-c conservatives. Holm, a small business owner and mother of four, emphasizes her understanding of local struggles and the need for a stronger economy. She is focused on protecting Canada's sovereignty and economic future. The race now includes Holm, Conservative incumbent Garnett Genuis, NDP candidate Chris Jones, and People’s Party candidate Jay Sobel.
