Residential snow removal in Sherwood Park is scheduled to begin on January 6th as crews start clearing priority residential streets. These roads are classified as Priority 4 and are cleared once compacted snow reaches an average depth of 7 centimetres, which was last recorded on December 29th. Orange snow removal signs will be posted in neighbourhoods with specific dates when parking is not permitted, and vehicles left on the street during these times may be ticketed $250 and towed. Officials say it may take up to 10 days to complete snow removal across all neighbourhoods. During clearing, residents are encouraged to park on designated collector roads marked for snow routes. A snow clearing map will be available online to track progress once operations are underway.

The Strathcona Wilderness Centre has introduced 2.3 km of lit cross-country ski trails for Winter 2025/26 and is piloting extended evening hours starting Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, allowing skiers to enjoy the trails from 4:30 to 8:30 pm every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the season. In addition to cross-country skiing, the Centre offers snowshoeing, winter walking, and cycling, with day passes, season passes, and equipment rentals available for all skill levels. Recent renovations have improved accessibility, including wheelchair-friendly ramps, accessible parking, and Para Nordic ski trails suitable for sit-skis and visually impaired guests. Visitors can check trail conditions through the Nordic Pulse grooming report or live webcam before heading out.
- Speaking of activities, there are not many major events happening, but there are plenty of local activities for seniors, families, and kids over the next month. Highlights include balance classes for seniors, volunteer drop-ins, farmer’s markets, and community club meetings. There are also free recreational skates, play sessions for young children, a winter walk for those 55+, and a couple of fire station tours. You can check out the County’s calendar here.
