This Week In Sherwood Park:

  • There will be a meeting of Council on Tuesday at 9:00 am. The meeting begins with a closed session, where Council will discuss an update on the Integrity Commissioner selection process and the Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation and Program Transition, among other things. When the meeting opens up to the public, Council will hear options related to the Sherwood Drive and Broadmoor Boulevard Traffic Circle Improvements Project as well as discussing incurring debt for the construction of the Emergency Services Station at Cambrian Crossing.

  • On Wednesday, at 1:00 pm, there will be another meeting of Council. The entire agenda will be discussed in a closed session, and the meeting will focus on budgeting.

  • The Annual Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial March will take place on Saturday, September 14, starting at 10 am in Sherwood Park. The event, organized by the Strathcona County Emergency Services Honour Guard, honours firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in service to the community. The procession will begin at Salisbury Composite High School and conclude at the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial near Fire Station 1.

 


 

Last Week In Sherwood Park:

  • Strathcona County has asked for feedback on its Transit Master Plan (TMP). Public input is being sought through a survey available online until September 20th, 2024. The Plan outlines proposed route and service changes that aim to guide transit operations for the next 10 - 20 years. Two transit terminal pop-up events will be held as part of the Strathcona County Transit Master Plan update. The first event will take place on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Bethel Transit Terminal. The second event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, at the same time, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Ordze Transit Centre.

  • The 2024 World’s Longest Baseball Game, held at Saiker’s Acres near Sherwood Park, saw Team Cure defeat Team Hope 771-632 over 383 innings in 102 hours. Each of the 56 participants had a personal connection to cancer, and the event raised nearly $282,000, contributing to the purchase of an MR-Sim machine for the Cross Cancer Institute. Organized by Dr. Brent Saik, this long-running event has raised millions for cancer research since 2003. Donations for this year’s game will continue to be accepted online until September 30th.

  • Strathcona County RCMP have launched an investigation after a threatening message was spray-painted on the sidewalk outside Heritage Hills Elementary. Surveillance footage captured a male suspect, wearing a balaclava carrying out the act. Despite the threat, RCMP confirmed that there was no immediate danger to the school, and all programming continued as scheduled. The police are working closely with school administration and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
