There are no meetings at City Hall this week, on account of the Thanksgiving holiday. Today, transit buses will operate on a Saturday schedule, while the Community Centre, County Hall offices, and library will all be closed. Haunted trail tours are coming to the Strathcona Wilderness Centre for Halloween season. Guided tours, featuring ghostly legends and costumed storytellers, will be available on Friday, October 18th and Friday, October 25th. Each tour will last approximately 30 minutes and will highlight local legends alongside fictional tales. The tours are suitable for ages 12 and up. Tickets are $16.50 and must be purchased in advance. Tours will depart at 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
- The Sherwood Park and District Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for its 47th annual Business Awards. The awards feature six categories, including Business of the Year and New Entrepreneur, with nominations open until October 21st. Previous winners include Imperial Oil for Business of the Year and Canine Addiction for New Entrepreneur. Nominations are being accepted online, and the awards ceremony will take place on November 15th at Festival Place.

- Strathcona County's Economic Development Department received a silver medal from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its website, selectstrathcona.com, at the 2024 IEDC Annual Conference in Denver. The award recognizes the website's role in promoting investment opportunities and showcasing the County's assets, including commercial real estate and cultural attractions. The accolade adds to the website's previous honours, including a Gold Hermes Creative Award and an Award of Distinction from The Communicator Awards.

BGC Strathcona County has reapplied for the federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program grant, which could cover 60% of the $10 million cost for a new Youth Hub. After being unsuccessful in their first application, the organization is determined to pursue this funding, as the federal government has extended the program with additional resources until 2029. BGC plans to also seek provincial funding, despite previous rejections. The new facility, located near Brentwood Elementary School, aims to accommodate the growing demand for its programs. To support the project, BGC has prepared for potential debt, saved $1 million in reserves, and will initiate a capital fundraising campaign.
- Bartlett Group announced its plans to establish a Canadian headquarters and manufacturing facility in Sherwood Park, promising at least 100 permanent jobs. The Louisiana-based company specializes in industrial contracting and custom metal fabrication and aims to replicate its US success in Alberta after acquiring the Taurus Group in Fort Saskatchewan. The new facility will initially focus on scaffolding manufacturing, with plans to expand into other product lines like insulation fabrication.
