The long-awaited Francophone school l’École Claudette-et-Denis-Tardif officially opened in Sherwood Park, marking the end of a decade-long effort by families and advocates. The new K-12 school welcomed 249 students this fall, giving local Francophone learners permanent facilities after years in temporary spaces. Advocates said the milestone reflects years of community perseverance and provincial support. Construction began in 2023 following years of lobbying and provincial funding approval in 2021. Local MLA Nate Glubish highlighted how the project grew from an idea into a modern, fully equipped school serving families across Strathcona County and neighbouring communities. With enrollment expected to surpass 400 students within five years, planners are already preparing modular additions to handle future growth.

Sherwood Park MLA Kyle Kasawski has introduced Bill 202, a private member’s bill aimed at tightening Alberta’s conflict-of-interest rules. The legislation would cap gifts to MLAs, ministers, and ministerial staff at $100 unless approved by the Ethics Commissioner, with mandatory disclosure required within 15 days. It also seeks to ban ministers and their staff from accepting gifts from lobbyists or anyone with business before the government. Kasawski emphasized that the bill would still allow minor protocol gifts but prevent extravagant perks.

Guests at the launch included local MLAs and the Mayor, who highlighted the club’s importance to the community. Founded in 1920, Kin Canada is now the country’s largest national service organization, with over 400 clubs nationwide. The organization emphasizes community service, leadership development, cooperation, and unity among its members.
